Happy birthday Tru Thoughts! On Saturday 22nd February, Brighton-based record label Tru Thoughts will be having their 15th (great innings there, my son!) birthday party at KOKO — merely the first in a series of celebrations planned for 2014. At this party in particular, recent label signees Harleighblu, Ty and living legends Alice Russell and Nostalgia 77 are set to perform alongside the crème de la crème of talent that Tru Thoughts has to offer.
The label has had 15 years to perfect the party atmosphere, so expect a great night. With top notch curation of crossover (live!) bands and DJs; expect the canonised to the contemporary, with soul, funk, electronic, and reggae feels — not to mention the hip-hop groove that underpins everything good in this world. With the likes of Alice Russell, Wrongtom vs. Ragga Twins (+ full live band[!]), UK hip-hop pioneer Rodney P (Jesus Christ!), Anchorsong, Nostalgia 77, Werkha, Titeknots, and, of course, label boss Robert Luis on the wheels of steel, don’t even think about putting your back upside the wall!
